On February 1, 2020, a team of medical professionals, support staff and Ethiopian immigrants left Minneapolis for a two week trip to Ambo to bring 30 crates of medical supplies, eyeglasses and school supplies to distribute in rural areas.

Oromia Rural Health Initiative had been working to coordinate this trip for over two years. In that time, a plan was organized work with the Ambo University Medical School and the Ambo Referral Hospital.

Our team included doctors, nurses, medical students, nursing and medical assistants and a dentist. Several were trained to do eyesight screening. We brought thousands of prescription eyeglasses and were able to distribute most of them. We provided exams, lab testing and pharmacy services from our mobile clinics which visited 4 rural communities.

We also brought school supplies to give away at each school
